On October 6, the Syria Arab Army (SAA) launched several rockets on militants’ positions in the northwestern Idlib countryside.

According to opposition sources, the shelling targeted the town of al-Z’ainah, located west of the strategic city of Jisr al-Shughur.

Jisr al-Shughur is one of the biggest urban centers in northern Idlib. The city and its surroundings are occupied by several foreign terrorist groups, including the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP). The terrorists kicked out most of the locals after capturing the city in the summer of 2015.

Earlier this week, Sputnik revealed that the TIP and al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) agreed to fortify northern Lattakia and northwestern Hama during a meeting held in Jisr al-Shughur.

The SAA’s shelling and the terrorists’ preparations indicate that a large-scale military confrontation could take place around Jisr al-Shughur soon.
