Syrian Army Shells Turkish Observation Post In Southeast Idlib: Monitoring Group

Illustrative image

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled on December 4 Turkey’s main observation post in southeastern Idlib, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Right (SOHR).

“Regime forces in southeast Idlib targeted the Turkish observation post, near the town of Alsurman, and its outskirt with several shells,” the London-based monitoring group’s report reads.

Opposition activists confirmed the SOHR’s report, saying that several artillery rounds fired by the army landed in the vicinity of the Turkish post.

The Turkish military established Alsurman post and eleven other positions in Greater Idlib last year in the framework of the Astana Process. The posts were supposed to establish a 20 km demilitarized zone. However, this is yet to happen.

Last week, al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Turkish-backed groups launched a large-scale attack on Syrian military positions in southeast Idlib from the vicinity of Alsurman post.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defence is yet to comment on the alleged shelling of Alsurman post. Ankara usually ignores incidents that don’t lead to human losses.

“Opposition activists” and SOHR report this. I don’t take their word for anything.

Issam

“Opposition activists confirmed the SOHR’s report” Now i’m convinced. :)

Hornet24

SOHR only forgot to mention that HTS artillery and amunition depot in southern vicinity of Turkish OP

Jens Holm

According to You there probatly are not a single Assad and SDF soldier there and Turks and NF only use firecrackers at themselves.

John Wallace

The artillery rounds landed in the VICINITY of the Turkish Post and last week HTS and Turkish allied groups launched an attack from the VICINITY of the same Turkish Post. So maybe they were shelling the terrorists who were hiding beside the Turkish Post thinking they were immune there. Wasn’t there an article last week showing a terrorist base right beside a Turkish Observation Post. Surprise , setting up a base beside the Turkish OP is not going to provide cover. If a few shells fell short then maybe the Turks would forbid others building bases beside them.

Icarus Tanović

Erdogan’s regime think that it has outsmarted all.

Jens Holm

Maybee. I am not there. We have seen several ecamples like that Al Tanf included.

John Wallace

We all know you are not there Jens. Anyone trying to read your gibberish that you think is good English can see that.

What’s wrong with shelling Turks?

PZIVJ

I don’t see a problem with that. SAA gunners are jut making sure the Turkish OP is awake and alert. :)

Mustafa Mehmet

that means war . be ready

Ali Alsaaidi

Bro why are you in de middle of the frontline i mean you put turkish troops in the crossfire

Jens Holm

I see it as war for years already invading Syria.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Hopefully the news is accurate, there nothing I like hearing more than “Turkish OB post struck by the SAA”, even near misses give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

Brian Michael Bo Pedersen

“…SHELLS TURKISH OBSERVATION POST…” “… landed in the vicinity …” So they did not shell the OP? Either the author of the headline is lying or the one reporting where the shells impacted is.
