For the second day in a row, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled the newly-established Turkish post in the southern Idlib countryside.
“Regime forces resumed their shelling on the perimeter of the Turkish post in Maar Hattat … For the second time in less than 24 hours,” the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on September 14.
Maar Hattat is located 7km south of the city of Ma`arat al-Nu`man, the biggest urban center in southern Idlib. Turkey established the post in the vicinity of the town following the SAA’s advance in northern Hama last month without any agreement with the other parties of the Astana process, Russia and Iran.
A day earlier, a shell fired by the SAA artillery hit a berm surrounding the post. Several shells were reportedly fired at the post in the new attack, with no reports of any losses.
The shelling on the Turkish post could be a mere mistake, as the SAA artillery targeted several militants’ positions in nearby areas during the last 48 hours.
