Late on October 16, a unit of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) deployed in northern al-Hasakah shot down an armed drone that was launched by Turkish-backed militants.
“A drone of Turkish occupation forces was shot down in the village of Mujibra Zarkan in the countryside of the district of Tell Tamr in al-Hasakah’s countryside,” the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Photos of the downed drone reveal that it is a commercially-bought X-UAV Mini-Talon. The drone was apparently armed with two small-diameter projectiles.
A day earlier, a drone of the same type was downed by the Turkish-backed National Syrian Army (NSA) near the border town of Ras al-Ayn, 30km north of Tell Tamr. However, the drone, which was likely launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), was not armed.
Several units of the SAA were deployed in northern al-Hasakah earlier this month, mainly around Tell Tamr, to support the SDF and counter the ongoing Turkish-led offensive, dubbed Operation Peace Spring.
