The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has shot down a suicide unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the northern countryside of Hama, the Abkhazian Network News Agency (ANNA) reported on August 4.
The agency released several photos of the locally-made UAV, that appears to be equipped with an electric motor and armed with a small warhead situated in its nose section.
This type of suicide UAV is different from the larger ones usually used by Idlib militants to attack the Russian Hmeimim airbase and other key military positions. However, it was spotted before.
On August 21 of 2018, army units shot down three suicide UAVs of the same type over the town of Abu Dali in northern Hama.
The ANNA didn’t specify if the suicide UAV was shot down before or after the new ceasefire in Greater Idlib. The use of such weapons would be a major violation of the already fragile ceasefire.
Well done SAA. Very accurate target.
