On January 28, Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers confronted a unite from the British Army’s Special Air Service (SAS) that attempted to enter the government-held “security zone” in the center of the northeastern Syrian city of al-Hasakah.
First, the unite, which was moving in two “Escapade” Bushmaster PMVs [Protected Mobility Vehicles], attempted to enter the government-held area through al-Nijmah checkpoint. However, they were forced to retreat by SAA soldiers. A few minutes later, they attempted to enter the area from al-Saha checkpoint, only to be also pushed back by a group of soldiers.
No provocations were reported during the encounters. The SAS unit was reportedly lost and had no clear information on the situation inside al-Hasakah city.

The British special forces operators were apparently on their way back from Geweran prison, where they were spotted on January 25. Back then, the prison and nearby areas were under the control of ISIS terrorists who launched an attack on January 20 to free their comrades.
A day after the deployment of the SAS unit, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that its fighters had taken control of the prison.
Later, a report by the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi revealed a secret deal between the SDF and the terrorists holding up at Geweran. Under the deal, the SDF allowed 200 terrorists to withdraw from the prison to al-Badia in exchange for the release of 23 of its own fighters who were being held as hostages. The UK may have deployed its special forces to facility the deal or help implement it.
It’s worth noting that SAA soldiers and government supporters have been working to restrict the movement of US-led coalition forces in al-Hasakah for nearly a year now.
Brits probably have no relation in Syria. All those forces, especially Turkish, Iranian, Iraqi forces should leave. Russians will leave later.
IMO there were high value/Sensitive ISIS leader(s) that were targetted for evacuation under cover of an ISIS break out. Those SAS PMVs contained those targets ( possibly Israelis) and were being removed from the chaos created.
