AlMasdarNews reports: Heavy fighting is still raging in and around al-Bahariyah village in Eastern Ghouta region with the Syrian Army making little but steady advances inside the rebel-held bastion.
Having succeeded in recapturing the school building and tower yesterday, fierce clashes then erupted as militants fighting for the Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam managed to infiltrate into the village via a network of tunnels.
“Apparently, the militants used tunnels to hide themselves when we first stormed the village. Hours later, they jumped up and heavy firefights then broke out whereby we managed to advance northward and control the southern parts of the Cemetry”, a military source told Al-Masdar News reporter in Damascus.
The village has for long been a contested area and bears a strategic importance as it overlooks several other villages in the region.
