The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stormed Dael in the northern countryside of Daraa following a large hit-and-run attack on government buildings in the town.
Late on May 26, unidentified gunmen attacked the Ba’ath Party office, where a detachment of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate is deployed, as well as the local police station in Dael. Heavy clashes broke out in the town. Moreover, local sources reported hearing at least two large explosions.
According to the pro-opposition Horan Free League news blog, a number of Syrian service members were killed or wounded as a result of the attack. A military vehicle was also damaged.
Once the clashes in Dael cooled down, unidentified gunmen attacked a detachment of the Military Intelligence Directorate and several checkpoints of the SAA in the town of Saida in the eastern countryside of Daraa. Injures were reported. Opposition sources said that the attack was carried out in support of Dael’s gunmen.
The attacks provoked a fierce response by the SAA, whose troops stormed Dael on the morning of May 27. A number of suspects were reportedly arrested.
Local sources in Dael claim that the town is current under a curfew. The situation in the town is still far from being stable.
The attacks in Dael and Saida were likely meant to disturb the Syrian Presidential Elections. The side responsible for these attacks is yet to be determined.
