Syrian Army Storms Another Town In Southwestern Idlib As Militants’ Defenses Collapse

Support SouthFront

Late on August 10, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stormed the town of Hobait in the southwestern Idlib countryside with support from the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Pro-government sources said that heavy clashes with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies are still taking place north and east of Hobait. However, the army is expected to secure the town in the upcoming few hours.

Earlier, SAA units stormed the villages of Maghar al-Hamam and Maghar al-Hantah, northeast and north of Hobait. The army also repelled an attack on the newly-captured Sukayk hill in the southeastern Idlib countryside.

Hobait is located only 7km to the west of the key town of Khan Shaykhun, which controls the main highway between the Syrian capital, Damascus, and the city of Aleppo.

The capture of Hobait would be a major blow to HTS and its allies. The militant group’s defense in the region appears to be collapsing rapidly.

How much of Idlib does the SAA want to liberate before they write off the rest of it as a Jihadist hell hole much like Israel confines Gaza? The alternative is to drive the rats into Turkey but contrary to the West’s demonization of Assad, I don’t think that ethnic cleansing is his style. Maybe he will reduce the area to the point where Aleppo is safe, let the rest fester and work on getting Syria’s oil fields back for the people of Syria.

Gen. Jack Keane will scream but will the U.S. public really have the stomach to go to war to prevent the Syrians from taking back their own land? Maybe so, we are dumb as dirt and belligerent fools.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

screw that guy lol, syria will take back every inch of what used to be syria

chris chuba

Agreed. The Turks may have a larger army but the Syrians can and have driven them back when they gather their forces. The Turks can roll back in but how long before their morale breaks.

The SAA can definitely puncture the SDF at will. I hope they get some of their oil fields back before winter.

Icarus Tanović

That would be definitely a Vietnam for Turks.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

yes from your mouth to Gods ears :)))

The SAA and the SDF will negociate a solution, both have a common enemy….Turkey and the jihadists.

Attrition47

Good news to wake up to on a sunny Sunday morning. The slow but sure crumbling of the US head-chopping, heart-eating rapers and slavers doesn’t gab the headlines but does conserve manpower.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

Do you live on us east coast?

Attrition47

No, the English east coast ;O)

JerryDrake

No compromise. NEVER…

More dead Turk-maggot goat rapers… life is good :-D

That’s right! They’ll get so desperate, I expect some furious and vicious Al Nusra moves.

It’s like a small hole in the dam that just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and you know what happens to small holes in dams when they get bigger and bigger, they eventually get to a point where they actually burst the dam. The SAA started off as a trickle and then they became a slow flow, but now they’ve become a steady stream that will at some point in the future, finally turn into an overwhelming torrent that will eventually smash that dam to pieces. We never get any bad news from Syria anymore, just good news, and nobody say the constant ceasefires are bad news because they’re not, they’re actually good news now, because after every ceasefire we have, we also get the SAA advancing into new territory every time it’s broken, which is actually great news. Using ex FSA fighters to retake Idlib sounded like a good idea at the time but it hasn’t worked out too well, apart from all the territorial losses and deaths, there’s also been many mass defections back to the rebels, but they’ve tweaked the ranks of those FSA conscripts and imbedded them with regular troops now, instead of letting them fight in their own units as they used to, and look at the difference now. I’d bet more than half of all SAA deaths and injuries in Hama and Idlib are from conscripted FSA fighters that were forced to join the SAA after the end of the Daraa/Quneitra campaign, some 25 to 30,000 fighters in all, now they’re being forced to fight against their old comrades as punishment, LOL, Syrian justice is brilliant.

klove and light

yes…continue..no more bs no more Agreements….WAR BLOOD DEATH to the invading SOB´s jihadi turkish pricks

Al Masdar claims it has been taken. From Hobait push on towards Khan Shaykhun and let the southern strongholds of Morek, Lataminah and Kafr Zita fall like ripe fruit into the SAA’s hand. No need to attack the Turkish base. Just drive the Headchoppers onto the base of their employers. The Turks aren’t going to do shit because Erdogan has a very strong appetite, but very poor teeth. He’ll just huff and puff a lot, but the headchoppers can stew on the Turkish base for all we care. See how they like it to have a couple of thousand of headchoppers crash at their place.

Once this southern bulge has been taken, and I reckon Kabani taken as well it will be interesting to see what happens next. I wouldn’t be surprised if the offensive stops afterwards, as it was probably all about securing the Russian base from drone attacks. Still, it would be nice to at least push as far north along the Aleppo highway to open that highway again and push the headchoppers away from Aleppo so the city itself is out of artillery distance.

Gary Sellars

With the army pushing on Sukayk in the East of the Wahabbi salient, it seems that they judge the time is ripe for a pincer move. The prospect of a cauldron sealing up uncommitted troops south of Khan Sheykoun might force the HTS child-killers to pull up stumps and concede the territory.

Barba_Papa

These guys love to be encircled though. They love to stay put and be cut off and spend some time in isolation before taking a green bus ride.

Smart move in case of almost encirclement would be indeed to concede the territory. But these guys do not think logically. Ideologues never do. Or they reason that losing those towns and a sizeable force in a desperate hard battle taking lots of SAA troops with them is preferable to just losing those towns without a fight?

Gary Sellars

The supply of green buses is now exhausted. No more rat-lines to allow these fuckers to flee to safety… Now they can either run or stand and die, and their followers can join them in Hell.

Erdogan cant rape gaot anymore in Syria he can only rape Mustafa and Turkish camels.
