On Friday, Syrian troops surrounded the town of Khan ash Shaykh, located 26 km to the south-west of the Syrian capital, which for a long time remained one of the most active points of resistance of the Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (previously known as the Al-Nusra Front) terrorist group, the Lebanese Al-Manar TV-channel reported.

According to the TV-channel, Syrian soldiers occupied advantageous positions to the east of Khan ash Shaykh, clearing the area from terrorists and cutting off their escape routes to the Jordanian border. The Syrian Army came close to these areas at the beginning of October, but could not drive terrorists out of there until recently.

Surrounded terrorists continue to maintain fierce resistance. As Al-Manar reported, as a result of attacks of artillery of government troops and airstrikes of the Syrian Air Force, militants suffer heavy losses.

Reportedly, Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorists attempted to conduct a counter-attack on positions of the army, using a bomb-laden vehicle. However, the attempt was failed – a suicide bomber, who was driving the vehicle, was eliminated by Syrian military.
