The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered on September 18 several cannons and some ammunition in the newly-liberated town of Kafr Zita in the northern Hama countryside.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, the weapons were left behind by fighters of so-called Jaysh al-Izza. The group withdrew from its strongholds in northern Hama last month as a result of an SAA military operation.
The weapons included seven mortar cannons of different calibers, mortar shells, artillery rounds and loads of heavy caliber ammunition.
Earlier this month, the SAA uncovered loads of weapons during a search operation in the nearby town of al-Lataminah in northern Hama. The weapons were also left behind by Jaysh al-Izza.
Jaysh al-Izza is known to be a close ally of Hay’at Tahrir al-Shamб al-Qaeda’s former branch in Syria. The group lost most of its assets while trying to repel the recent SAA attack.
