The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has uncovered a long tunnel deep under the district of Darayya southwest of the Syrian capital of Damascus, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on January 23.
“We uncovered a multi-level tunnel under an old house in Darayya, the first level is 150 meters long, the second level is 600 meters towards the area of Nahr Eshe and the international highway, it is 30 meters deep underground,” a military source told SANA.
The SAA found 14 mines and 20 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) inside the tunnel, which was used by terrorist groups to hide and move freely during the early years of the war.
Darayya battle ended in October of 2016 when the SAA managed to capture key areas inside the district forcing the remaining militants to accept a surrender agreement that allowed them to withdraw to the opposition-held part of norther Syria.
The army believe that foreign experts helped the local militias dig their tunnel network around Damascus. According to pro-government activists, these experts were from the Palestinian Hamas Movement that has tremendous experience in this field.

What would Hamas be doing helping the pro-Western side?
Gulf money
and western engineers and advisors who can read the topography and use it to advantage.
@James, LOL, I get the joke.
Is all about Muslim Brotherhood and Sunni fundamentalism. Hamas is Muslim Brotherhood based faction – roots in Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Despite Damascus long politically assisting Palestinians – in 2012 the Hamas political wing formally announced they supported militants in Syria. The Syrian domestic militants in 2012 were largely Muslim Brotherhood based and most had long histories and criminal pasts of conflict with secular Syrian state. Hamas shuttered its Damascus political offices and moved lock-stock and barrel to Doha in Qatar – who were heavily arming and sponsoring Syrian Muslim Brotherhood militants at time. To understand all this – Qatar was also sponsoring Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (Hamas’ root faction) that had just taken electoral government in Egypt – and Hamas’ political wing went all giddy with idea that the Muslim Brotherhood’s regional moment had finally arrived. It hadn’t. Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood government in Egypt didn’t last long against military and the militants factions in Syria had their high water mark in 2015 before Russia intervened. So early in Syrian conflict Hamas tunnel engineers were heavily involved around Damascus instructing the militant’s in tunnel systems, in areas like east Ghouta. Hamas could move around Damascus easily due to long standing large Palestinian camps nearby. Result of all this – over confident Hamas political wing backed the wrong side – Qatar and militants – and has had to come crawling back to Damascus cap in hand. Hamas have proved untrustworthy to the secular Syrian state that politically aided them for many years.
Thank you so much for giving me that insight :)
It unfortunately makes me not care so much for the Israel/Palestine conflict knowing Hamas is charge and they basically fought alongside each other in the Syrian war.
Thanks for acknowledgement . Is complicated and nuanced narrative due to long term rivalries and conflicts – think of it in ancient terms – the Levant and Mesopotamia are ancient sites with very complex histories. To grasp this, at most recent level, consider in the 1980’s Hamas were encouraged into existence by modern Israel – as a tactical ploy against their then main foe the PLO. Don’t be disinterested by complexity – the main players are deeply interested in it themselves – yet they project a simplified image from both sides. Be good – and trust your instinct.
Arabs are always on special, you can buy an Arab for half the price of most other nationalities.
So just lining their own pockets with no real moral compass…..
It seems that way, Israel could not exist without cheap Arabs to do the work for them.
Arabs are emotional uneducated tribal people open to exploitation and sell out to the highest bidder. They are tribal simple people with no sense of nationalism or dignity and that is why the west and Zionists can control them with mere pinkies :)
Sounds like everything I’ve come to expect from people of the West! It seems we have made a significant backwards step in evolution.
Link at bottom: In case some people cant see the point of the Syrian Government releasing details of this particular tunnel (there are dozens of them, and most go unreported when found), the release of this story is likely a simple ‘coded’ message of some sort to the ‘masters’ of the agents who used them recently.
Likely these particular tunnels were used by the same people who in turn sent a coded message of thier own recently (perhaps the car bomb near the Russian Embassy, for example).
It may be that the tunnel rats have been caught and being made to squeel – or perhaps some important bit of kit has been recovered – such as a large explosive device similar to a WW1 ‘Mine’, or perhaps a chemical weapon, perhaps even laser designators to paint the air-defence systems or other buildings for the Israeli air force.
When the Syrains/Russians/Iranians really want to rub salt into a wound they invite Zionist media to take a look. For example just last year several really serious tunnel / bunker complexs (made for Mossad / MI6 agents and thier pet terrorists) were found near Damascus. One had a central ‘bunker’ and even specially equiped get-away / bug out vehicles. After it was cleared, the Zionist media baby known as the BBC was invited in for a tour. For those who know what they are looking at this is really rubbing salt into the wounds of the loss:

Dont forget also the recent desctruction of the MOSSAD tunnels discovered by some unknown party (Iranians?) going into Lebanon from Israel. The Israelis could not totally cover that up, so their bug out and subsequent demolition was explained away as Hezbolla tunnels into Israel being destroyed. LOL. About 90% of the people I speak to fell for that bit of psychological manipulation by the MSM due to the old tactic of ‘a bit of truth covers many lies’ (ie showing one genuine Hezbolla tunnel to cover the Israeli tunnels).
Many people still do not recognise that tunnels are used for more than moving around in. Rather than expaline the significance of the tunnel in this article, I have attached a link to a bit of forgotten history (that Israel in particular wants kept forgotten). Now imagine this underneath an airport / command and control facility / air defence system / barracks / palace / embassy / etc:

Sorry but we don’t accept BBC material especially from the Brits.
Obviously Syria does not have even one educated civil engineer or geologist to advise the pathetic SAA on how to build tunnels to protect its equipment which the Zionists destroy at will. The topography in Syria comprises various clays and loams (mixtures of clay, sand, and silt) which is ideal for tunneling and as the photos show is packed tightly enough not to need retaining walls and reinforced ceilings. It is shame that Syria has no educated people to advise the SAA on how to build underground bunkers and tunnels. The headchoppers were smarter or had western engineers advising them.
Surely Perfidious Albion is the biggest experts as it’s military institutions, in Flanders Field dug thousands of kilometers of trenches in WWI and hundreds of miles of tunnels. France UK & US have surely institutionalized that knowledge and FUKUS is capable of teaching it’s pet Jihadis.
This terrorists arabs can dig tunnels faster then Osain Bolt or any earth worm.George Bush is the only man who can smoke them out from the sand.build man made wells with water pipe network.fillup all the tunnels with water.or chase pigs in the tunnels then you will see how those bloody arabs jump out of those tunnels with AK47 in hand.Because their dont like pigs.
