The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered several weapon caches during recent search operations in the towns of al-Dumayr and Arbin around the capital of Damascus, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on April 10.

“As a result of security surveillance and search operations, a variety of ammunition and weapons, which had been left behind by terrorist groups, were found,” an officer in the SAA told the SANA’s reporter in Damascus.

The weapons included a Yugoslav-made M79 Osa anti-tank weapon along with dozens of rounds. The weapon has an effective firing range of 350m only.

Large quantities of the M79 Osa were supplied by the U.S. and its allies to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) throughout Syria in 2013. The weapon has proven to be ineffective in combat, as it even failed to penetrate the armour of older T-72 main battle tank models.

Similar to all weapons supplied by the U.S, most of the M79 Osa shipments ended up in the hands of terrorist groups, like the al-Nusra Front and ISIS. The Osa was even used against US-made Abrams main battle tanks in Iraq, according to JANES.

That’s a lot of ammo that Obama directly supplied…or, at the least…green-lighted to his jihadis.

All to murder the sons and daughters of Syria. Can’t they award him a 3rd Nobel Peace Prize?

Just because the M79 cannot penetrate a T-72 does not make it an ineffective weapon – and I doubt the T-72 is protected in all aspects. There are plenty of targets where even weaker AT rockets are useful, from BMPs to fortified positions.

The usual insults aside, it is important to remember that most of this area is controlled by former Rebels. Given how frequently these rather large caches are discovered, I would surmise there is a lot of coup plotting and infighting in the forces nominally commanded by Assad.

Bill Wilson

I suspect that the former rebels are disclosing the caches of arms dealers that had cozy arrangements with government and SAA officials that allowed them to operate without hindrance until the various rebel groups and ISIS lost their funding thus the money to buy up the dealers’ remaining stocks.

How do you tie in large caches of weapons everywhere fractures within SAA, you israelis really exxagerate on the projections.

I will surmise your an inbred nazi.

See i can do that too.
