The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has uncovered a large weapons cache in Damascus’ Eastern Ghouta, the Syrian state TV reported on January 29.

The weapons cache was uncovered during a search and clear operation in the district of Yalda in the Ghouta’s western sector.

The weapons cache contained several weapons, including:

  • Two U.S.-made TOW anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) along with a launcher;
  • A Bulgarian-made Fagot ATGM;
  • A Yugoslav-made M79 Osa anti-tank weapon along with several rounds;
  • A Czechoslovakian-made RPG-75 rocket-propelled grenade.

The al-Rahman Brigade, which controlled most of the Ghoutah’s western sector up until it was cleared in 2018, was the only group that operated TOW missiles in the region.

The U.S. supplied TOW ATGMs and other weapons as a part of a secret operation to train and equip anti-government groups in Syria. The operation, known as “Timber Sycamore,” was authorized by former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2014. Three years later it was halted by President Donald Trump.

I hope the SAA will distribute these weapons amongst the various factions of terrorists still operating in Syria. :)

Assad must stay

what? why would they do that?

Arm and return. It’s a one way trip.
