The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) uncovered loads of weapons, communication systems and medical equipment during a recent search operation in the countryside of al-Quneitra, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on April 24.
“In cooperation with the local reconciliation committees … We uncovered a variety of weapons, ammunition and equipment,” a Syrian officer told the stat-run agency.
The weapons including a launcher for the Chinese-made HJ-73D anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) with an add-on thermal sight, dozens of AK-47 assault rifles, dozens of RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenade launchers and a variety of ammunition.

Several satellite communication systems were also found, including Iridium and Thuraya phones, a Garmin GPS navigation system and a ASTRA2Connect internet modem.

Most of these advanced communication systems were supplied to protestors and militants in southern Syria in the very first months of the crisis. According to the Damascus government and many opposition figures, most of these systems were provided and paid for by the intelligence services of Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
