Syrian security forces had uncovered a large weapons cache in the town of Kafr Nabudah in the northwestern Hama countrywide, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced on March 11.
The weapons cache was found in an abandoned home, owned by a wanted militant who is now on the run. 73 crates filled with bullets of different calibers and rocket-propelled grenades were found in the cache.
Kafr Nabudah was an infamous stronghold of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its Turkish-backed allies.
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) captured Kafr Nabudah on 26 May 2019 following a fierce battle with HTS and its allies that last for more than two weeks.
To this day, Syrian authorities are still working to remove weapons and war debris from dozens of towns and villages in the northwestern region which were captured during a series of large-scale operations in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
A large part of the northwestern region, commonly known as Greater Idlib, remains in the hands of HTS and its allies. Currently, the region is under a ceasefire agreement that was brokered by Russia and Turkey on 5 March 2020. Despite many violations, the ceasefire appears to be holding up, at least for the time being.
