The predominantly Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been conducting attempts to break the ISIS advances in the strategic city of Manbij in Aleppo province. According to the recent reports, the SDF is successfully advancing in the Hazawani Neighborhood. Pro-Kurdish sources claim that the group has seized about 80% of the neighborhood. However, this can’t be confirmed yet.
Meanwhile, the US-led coalition has continued to conduct air strikes, targeting ISIS units in the southern parts of the city.
In general, the situation can be described as very complicated. The battle for Manbij is ongoing much harder than it had been expected by pro-Kurdish analysts. Amid a significant lack of Arab units, the Kurdish-led SDF is not able to conduct successfull operations in the Arab populated areas. It looks that any military success of Manbij could be gained by the SDF only with almost total destruction of the city.
