Syrian Democratic Forces Enter Dashisha As ISIS Defense Collapses

sdf-press.com/en/

On June 17, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) imposed its control of the strategic town of Dashisha near the Syrian-Iraqi border, in the southern al-Hasakah countryside, after heavy clashes with ISIS, according to the media center of the SDF.

US-backed forces continued their advance and captured the village of al-Nasirah east of Dashisha, thus becoming only 2km away from the Syrian-Iraqi border. Reportedly, ISIS fighters withdrew toward their remaining positions along the border and in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

A day earlier, the remaining positions of ISIS west of Dashisha collapsed and the SDF managed to capture the village of Tell al-Jabir and the Abu Musab gas station.

The capture of of Dashisha is considered a huge blow to ISIS. Since the beginning of this year, the terrorist group had used the town as a base to launch cross border attacks against the Iraqi military and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) in western Iraq.

The US-led coalition and the SDF will likely develop their attack to eliminate the remaining positions of ISIS along the Syrian-Iraqi border and in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.

Good to see the offensive went smoothly, although I wonder what ISIS’s real strength was. We probably have a better idea after the war’s over.
