On Friday, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled an ISIS attack on its positions in al-Romaniah district in the western part of Raqqa city, according to Kurdish sources. The SDF also killed 26 ISIS fighters in al-Mansour, al-Barid and al-Nahdah districts.

Furthermore, SDF fighters captured an ISIS ammo depot in the western part of Raqqa city where they found many Soviet made Kh-28 air to ground anti-RADAR missiles, and R-40 air to air missiles. Back in 2016, ISIS captured dozens of Kh-28 and R-40 missiles in the Palmyra airbase.

As expected, the SDF began to advance from the western part of Raqqa city towards the center of the city. If the SDF achieves a success in this attack, only 30% of the city will left under the ISIS control.

On August 24, the ISIS-linked news agency, Amaq claimed that ISIS fighters killed 3 SDF fighters with IEDs near the Children hospital in the southern part of Raqqa city. According to Amaq, ISIS snipers also killed 2 other SDF fighters near the al-Salam hospital.
Furthermore, Amaq claimed that 16 civilians were killed and 64 others were injured as a result of the US-led coalition airstrikes on Raqqa city. Amaq added that over 20 shell fired by the US-led coalition artillery hit the children wing in the Raqqa public hospital.
