Syrian government forces are developing a secrutiy operationa against ISIS cells in the province of Deir Ezzor.

The operation was launched in the area south of the city of al-Mayadin on March 29. Units of the Syrian Arab Army, the National Defense Forces and Liwa al-Quds became the key striking power of government forces there. According to pro-government sources, by April 3, government troops had secured the Faydat Aḩmad al-Hayfan area from ISIS.

Since the start of the opration, no major clashes between ISIS terrorists and government troops have been reported in the area. However, ISIS units still remain active in the desert area south of al-Bukamal. ISIS cells avoid a direct confrontation with government troops prefering conducting hit and run attacks.

The Syrian-Iraqi border also remains the area with the active ISIS presence. On April 1, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced that the Iraqi military has plans to launch a cross-border operation against ISIS in the Syrian border area. MORE DETAILS

Does the Iraqi military have Syria’s agreement to launch a cross-border operation?

Joe

Understood they have .

AJ

I dont think Assad would mind if they are eliminating ISIS saves the SAA from doing it later

World_Eye

They had cross-border agreement on 10km in on both sides when they were start clearing Al-Qaim in Iraq, the Iraqis were able to enter 10k in Syria’s territory and when Syria was cleaning the Al-Bukamal they also had 10km entrance into Iraqi territory. I don’t know if this is still in place.

Elisabeth Jenders

yes, Syria and Iraq agreed on a 10 km wide cross-border operation zone last autumn when they started the fight against Daesh along the common border. Given that the area east of the Euphrates cannot be accessed by government forces, and that Iraq is an ally of Syria, I assume a wider zone will be granted.

World_Eye

Oh yes and check this out this is new https://southfront.org/iraq-has-plans-to-launch-cross-border-military-operation-to-combat-terrorists-in-syria/

You can call me Al

YES – they always have had, but the time was not right.

MD Ranix

syria and iraq are true allies – united against zio satanic terrorists

You can call me Al

I think we can add Iran or that – well to a certain extent.

SAA should try negotiate with ISIS to move them to eastern side of the river, before taking action. If ISIS refuses then SAA should clear the packet.

Barba_Papa

Thing is though, while I think the SAA wouldn’t mind offering Daesh a green bus ride to the other side, in order to get there those green busses would have to cross through SDF held territory. I can’t see that happening. And I don’t think Iraq would like it either as Daesh still holds some territory there along the Iraqi border.

Joe Doe

Well, there is part east of river control by ISIS, this would be good spot and 2 benefits. One will be clearing the packet Second, ISIS will need to fight SDF and Americans

jerrydrakejr

The best option is that SAA is pursuing ISIS towards Al Tanf, and given that they have been pushed from the east, it is very likely.

antoun

yes iraqi syria forces attacked isis after kurds de konabe rakka!!

Willing Conscience (The Truths

They’re not Isis they’re a part of the US backed rebel forces posing as Isis and they’re the perfect excuse the US needs to invade Syria. When they take over a city in Syria, most likely Palmyra, and then massacre innocent civilians, The US will have the excuse they need. Open your eyes people and learn to read between the lines, WW3 is about to start and no one seems to be aware of it.
