Syrian government forces have eliminated eight and detained 15 terrorists in the southern governorate of Daraa, Major General Oleg Yegorov, deputy head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, said on November 2.
According to the Russian officer, the neutralized terrorists were all involved in attacks on civilians and local officials in Daraa.
“Syrian security agencies continue to conduct a special operation to find, block and neutralize terrorists in the Daraa Province. Since October 30, state security units of the Syrian Arab Republic have killed eight and detained 15 militants involved in terrorist attacks against civilians and representatives of the Syrian authorities,” Maj. Gen. Yegorov said.
The neutralized terrorists were likely members of ISIS. Government forces have been hunting down the terrorist group’s cells in Daraa for a few weeks now.
Currently, Russian-backed local fighters and former rebels are conducting a security operation to uproot ISIS cells from Daraa city with direct support from the Syrian military and intelligence. Most of the terrorists mentioned by Maj. Gen. Yegorov were likely neutralized there.
In August, a similar Russian-backed security operation targeted its cells in the town of Jasim in the western Daraa countryside. Some 20 terrorists were killed there. Loads of weapons and explosives were also seized.
The recent security operations in Daraa inflicted heavy human and material losses on ISIS cells in the governorate, and degraded the terrorist group’s ability to carry out terrorist attacks in all of southern Syria. These operations wouldn’t have been possible without Russia’s support, and the cooperation between government forces and local fighters.
Terrorists must be killed immediately and not arrested.
Their immediate family can be executed afterwards.
