Syrian forces regain key areas in Lattakia, kill terrorists in Raqqah

Today, it is reported in an Iranian news media Press TV that Syrian forces have killed a large number of ISIS terrorists in the northern city of Raqqah and recaptured key areas in the coastal province of Lattakia.

The Press TV reported that on Sunday that the Syrian military continued operations in different parts of the country. According to the news media, those operations helped the Syrian forces to recapturing new areas and foiling terrorist attacks.

The SANA news agency reported citing a military source that the army units also foiled an attack by terrorist groups on military posts in the direction of al-Qalaa Mountain and Ain al-Baida area in the province.

The SANA also reported that scores of ISIS terrorists were killed or injured elsewhere in the northeastern Raqqah province as a result of army airstrikes on terrorist positions.

“The importance of the achievement: this is a step in the road of liberation of our precious Tadmor (Palmyra), so we will finish Qaryateen by God’s will tomorrow morning and head towards Tadmor, according to the leadership’s orders,” an unnamed Syrian field officer was quoted as saying.

For nearly five years, Syria has been observing a deadly conflict it blames on certain foreign states.  At least 470,000 people have been killed and millions have been displaced in the Arab country, according to a February report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research. The conflict has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure.

Nevertheless, the Arab country is currently observing an agreement for the cessation of hostilities which entered into force on February 27. The agreement stipulates the cessation of all military hostilities in Syria, except for the operations against ISIS terrorist group and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front militants.

The agreement was negotiated by Russia and the United States. Many suggest that Washington is among the main supporters of terrorists fighting against the Syrian government forces.
