The peace talks was started when the first group of militants, who laid down their arms, left Konaker village, located in the Damascus countryside, and started to move towards Idlib.
On January 19, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy, announced that 2,274 militants laid down their arms and joined the peace agreement with the Syrian government in Wadi Barada.
On January 18, the Russian centre for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria announced that militants in more regions all over the Syrian Arab Republic laid down arms and joined the reconciliation plan.
“Representatives of militants in more regions signed peace agreements with Damascus,” a statement of the center reads. “Total number of cities, towns, regions and villages that have thus far joined peace process in Syrian now stands at 1,134.”
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, peace talks are currently held also with a number of field commanders from Quneitra, Hama, Homs and Aleppo provinces.
