Syrian government forces are reinforcing their checkpoints in the eastern Daraa countryside, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on January 10.
According to the UK-based monitoring group, the Syrian Arab Army established a new checkpoint between the towns of al-Nuayyimah and Om elmiathin. Fifteen serverice members and a T-52 battle tank of the 15th Division were deployed at the checkpoint.
“New reinforcements were brought to other checkpoints of regime forces in the eastern countryside of Daraa in the past few days,” the SOHR said in a report.
The situation in Daraa, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the province, worsened last year. Dozens of attacks targeted Syrian service members, local fighters and even civilians.
ISIS cells were behind at least some of these attacks. Recently, the terrorist group revealed that its cells carried out 29 attacks in Daraa during 2020.
The vast majority of Daraa rebels joined the reconciliation process in mid-2018. Most of the radicals left to opposition-held areas in northern Syria. However, some have apparently stayed behind attempts to reignite the crisis in the governorate.
The lack of proper coordination between central government forces and local fighters has been causing the current chaos. Both sides are now working to resolve this issue with support from Russia.
I allow me to see those in Dara as reconsidering and not left behind on purpose.
Unless the checkpoint is big and well armed, I also allow med to see it as a new target.
But it’s taking too long to work out, the simple solution is kick Iran and Hezbollah out and let Russia do what it does best, reconcile with the opposition, that’s something the Iranians and Hezbollah don’t bother to do.
