The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on March 10 that its operations against the so-called “remnants of the Assad regime” on the coast had ended, but a war monitor warned that killings were still ongoing with civilians from the Alawite minority beginning the primary target.
In a statement, Hassan Abdul Ghani, a spokesman for the ministry, said that security threats had been neutralized in Latakia and Tartus.
“Having achieved [the neutralization of the security threats] we announce the end of the military operation,” Ghani said. “We were able … to absorb the attacks of the remnants of the toppled regime and its officers” and push them from “vital” locations.
The government’s crackdown on the coast began earlier this week when a rebellion mainly led by Alawites broke following months of violations. The Alawites are Syria’s largest minority group. The family of former president Bashar al-Assad belongs to the sect.
Following the ministry announcement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) warned that killings were still ongoing with the death toll exceeding 1,500.
At least 1,068 of the casualties, the London-based war monitor reported, were civilians, mostly Alawites, killed by government forces and affiliate militias.
Syria’s interim President Ahmed Sharaa said on March 10 that the mass killings of Alawites were a threat to his mission to unite the country, and promised to punish those responsible, including his own allies if necessary.
In his first interview to a global news agency, Sharaa blamed pro-Assad groups backed by foreigners for triggering the bloodshed but acknowledged that revenge killings had followed.
Footage posted to social networks showed some of the murderers committed after the Ministry of Defense announced that operations were over on the coast. It also revealed what appears to be attempts by government forces to hide evidence, by setting fire to buildings in targeted areas and even collecting then dumping the bodies of victims in remote areas.
SOHR confirmed that the government was working to hide what happened, in some cases even placing weapons and military gear next to civilian bodies.
Later today, closed-door consultations will be held at the United Nations Security Council to address the recent developments on the Syrian coast upon the request of both Russia and the United States. The move will likely put some serious pressure on Sharaa.

the greater israel project creates more genocide . israel building the supply road through syria to iran . the innocent have no hope .
shlomo and his stooges are crowing over the destruction of syria, but ultimately there will be no winners. even shlomo and erdogan will soon come to regret their involvement. they have divided the carcase of syria between them, and now they have the headache and the cost of ruling over a vast, lawless ungoverned space, iraq 2.0. ironically, the only ones who may come out ahead are russia/ iran/ hezbollah. syria was a great drain on them ….
financially, economically and militarily, and they have now been relieved of this burden. syria is now a free for all with multiple actors in bed with one another one day and at each other’s throats the next. the obvious likely outcomes are a clash between israel and turkey, a war of all against all internally, and a protracted insurgency against zionist occupation. probably all of the above. break out the popcorn.
israel is a nuclear power , the war will be finish in 1 hour
egypt’s national hero el sisi had to sign an agreement with israel to save his people from erdogan’s monstrous beast morsi. this was mandatory because morsi was waging a religious war against his own people.
rather afghanistan/talibanistan 2.0. a jungle.
jewlani is lying, he and his monstrous thugs will pay the price for the river of innocent blood they’ve spilled!
the massacre of alawites by al julani’s hts-qaeda army has striken so much fear into the sdf-pkk-ypg seccesionist, kurdish swine; that they’ve decided to hand over their weapons & join the damascus islamist regime. syria will remain as one. israeli settlements & israel’s illegal occupation of the golan heights, west bank & gaza is null & void & without international legal effect as per unsc resolutions 497 & 2334. israel lost.
at least 20,000-50,000 dead.
if 2 million alevis live in syria and an unending extermination has begun, then with the brutality that can be seen, it is not just the number of two small villages (+1000) that have been wiped out.
“1,500”? https://t.me/oleg_blokhin/64443
russia will obey their israeli masters
this is a religious war because in the name of god, a larger group wants to kill a smaller one. it was not enough for the criminal erdogan, that he destroyed libya and egypt, but also syria. if god existed, when he and putin were talking in kazan 2024, a ukrainian drone would have flown in and turned both putin and erdogan into minced meat. religious wars have existed since humans invented god.
