Support SouthFront

Today, the Syrian army and the National Defense Forces have launched a fresh advance on the ISIS terrorist group outside the Syrian city of Deir Ezzor. The government forces engaged ISIS militants in the Thardah Mountain and regained the hill 1 in the area.

The ongoing advanve is amied to retake a bunch of hilltops controlled by ISIS south of Deir Ezzor. If this is done, the army and its allied militias will be able to secure this flank of the city from futuer attacks.

Why fight for some mountain which is being bombed by us,uk,aussies and denmark anyway? IS controls some 40% of city itself, maybe defeat them first there?

Divesh Kumar

This mountain is vital for security of military airport in deir ezzor that is only supply line available for forces there.

Makes sense. Can’t aid just be airdropped anyway?

Heiko Demonus

I can, but these hills have a vital important position. ISIS can oversee the airport, much of the Deir Ezzor area and the Syrian army positions, it has to be taken back or it will remain a weak point in the defenceline there. Dont forget the Syrian Army secures over 150 000 civilian people from deadly ISIS on that place.

And within that population is a large Christian sect that would be slaughtered by ISIS. The importance for Syria is with Dayr az Zawr and Raqqa in Wahhabi control , is the excuse to create some sort of Sunnistan , and the partition of Syria .

There are TOW weapons with up to 5 km range. So the perimeter has to be secured or else …. well, there are plenty of videos of these weapons in use. They are very effective.
