Syrian military helicopters dropped early on January 12 thousands of leaflets over Aleppo’s western and southwestern countryside.
In the leaflets, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) called on civilians to leave the region through three humanitarian crossings, in al-Hadher, Abu Duhur and al-Hobait, which are set to open on January 13.
“Armed terrorist groups want to use you as human shields to prevent Syrian military units from advancing to save you and clear your areas from criminal terrorist,” the leaflet reads.

A ceasefire, that was brokered by Russia and Turkey, became active in the Greater Idlib region, including the western and southern Aleppo countryside, on January 12 midnight.
Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) violated the new ceasefire within a few hours by shelling Aleppo’s city center. Three civilians were killed and five others, mainly children, were injured as a result.
The SAA usually drops warning leaflets ahead of large-scale military operation. The army massed a large number of units in Aleppo over the last month. However, with a ceasefire in place, an operation in the region remains highly unlikely now.
That’s the way to do it ! Simple people can recognize and appreciate when government is caring about their survival and their well being in general. That is the most important role of any true state. Assad must win back the hearts of those people who have lost hope about the future. And have impression that they are neglected and used by everybody in long years of quite suffering in this terrible war.

Assad’s been complaining very loudly about the refugees being used as Turkish pawns, and now it seems he’s enlisted a few more people who agree with him, and from such unexpected quarters too.

Security Council on Jan. 12 renewed a cross-border aid operation into Syria for another six months and only from two border crossings with Turkey in the northwest of the war-torn country not controlled by President Bashar al-Assad. A Turkish official speaking to Hürriyet Daily News on condition of anonymity has said that Ankara made efforts in cooperation with the U.S. to include Akçakale border crossing across Tal Abyad in the UNSC mission, but that the proposal was declined, recalling that Russia wants the regime-controlled border crossings for the U.N. aid. The U.N. Security Council failed last month to extend the cross-border authorization after permanent members China and Russia vetoed one draft resolution. With 11 votes in favor, none against, and with four of its permanent members – abstaining – China, Russia, United States, and the United Kingdom – the council re-authorized only two of the four existing border crossings (Bab al-Salam and Bab al-Hawa in Turkey) for a period of six months. Previously, assistance had been extended by a year and at four border crossings with Turkey, Iraq (Al Yarubiyah) and Jordan (al-Ramtha). Does this help explain why these new humanitarian corridors have been opened, it certainly does, with less UN aid arriving from Turkey and the aide deliveries only being extended for another 6 months, it’ll mean way less to go around, they have to start emptying the excess baggage now, there’s not enough to go around anymore. Good on you Trump and Boris, now all you have to do is NOT veto the Chinese/Russian proposals to deliver UN aid through government held territory, and make sure to ask all your friends to do the same too. I wonder what Erdogan thinks of Boris now, and he thought they were getting along so well, LOL LOL LOL. Assad continually accuses the Turks of using the Turkish Red Crescent to control the refugees for their own advantage, they send the anti Assad civilians to safe areas and the pro Assad civilians are placed next to terrorist camps near the front lines [human shields], they support the rebels/terrorists with medical aid and food, and also let them run the refugee camps, and between them both they’ve also taken control of all the normal social institutions that the civilians or government would normally run, a total farce in other words, The UN and Turkey have just been using the refugees like pawns, especially the pro Assad civilians. LOL, all the anti Assad civilian population in Idlib that read this new article in the Turkish news won’t be thinking about using the newly opened humanitarian corridors, they’ll instead be heading north even faster than they were, LOL LOL LOL.
