On February 14, a Russian Orlan-10 drone was reportedly shot down over the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
Some Syrian opposition sources claimed that the Russian drone was shot down by militants while it was carrying out a reconnaissance mission over the al-Ghab Plains in northwestern Hama. Other sources, however, said a technical failure brought the drone down. The drone crashed near the town of Khirbat al-Naqus.
The drone appeared intact in a photo shared by opposition activists on social media. However, the photo turned out to be an old one. The photo was originally released by Turkish-backed militants in March of last year. The drone seen in the photo crashed in northern Raqqa.

The Orlan-10 has a flight duration of up to 16 hours and an operational range of 140km. The UAV can be equipped with different types of sensors to carry out several missions, including reconnaissance, 3D-mapping, electronic warfare and communication relay.

If confirmed, this would be the second Russian drone to crash in Greater Idlib this month. On February 7, an Orlan-10 was reportedly shot down by militants over the al-Zawiya Mont in the southern part of the region.
Greater Idlib militants, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), violate the ceasefire in the region on a daily basis. Last night, Russian warplanes wiped out a secret headquarters of HTS in what was likely a response to recent violations.
