On February 17, a Mi-17 helicopter of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) crash landed near the town of Alruyemih in the southeastern countryside of Lattakia.
A military official told the Syrian Arab News Agency that the helicopter experienced a “technical error” while conducting a training mission over the coastal region.
“The crew of the helicopter had to make an emergency landing in a rugged mountainous area,” the unnamed source said.
Two pilots, Captain Mojtaba Qusayeh and Lieutenant Basil Kiwan, where killed as a result of the rough landing, while three other pilots were wounded. The landing left the helicopter completely destroyed.
More than 40 Mi-8/17 helicopters are currently in service with the SyAAF. These helicopters are mainly used for training and transportation.
This was the SyAAF’s second loss in less than three days. On February 15, a MiG-23UB trainer fighter jet crashed near Sha’irat Air Base in the eastern countryside of Homs as a result of a mechanical error. Two pilots were killed in the accident.
Its either bad pilots or bad maintainance of the aircraft.
Bad maintenance of the aircraft + very old aircraft. God knows when this helicopter was produced.
Thats two Syrian aircraft down due to ” technical errors ” in a week. I think someone is lying here.
Turkish electronic warfare? We know they are pretty good at that. Maybe the Syrians are crossing their limits. I guess another crash will come very soon to confirm this is no ordinary accident. Imagine losing your planes without Turkish air force releasing a single shot. Imagine what would happen if the Turkish air force gets off the ground and start shooting missiles. May Allah continue to strengthen the Turkish military.
You are one duluded commenter who think the world of the Turkish military. The only reason why the world has witnessed the Turkish military adventurism is because of the Nord stream which Putin has embarrasingly used as an handcuff on the Russian military. We still remember when Russian military swinged into gear in Idlib after Turkish military had an open air wuth Bayrakter. When the bloody drone started falling off the sky, Erdogan ran to Moscow. We remember all that but you seem to forget. Your military is average and nothing fantastic at all.
