On May 11, fighters of the Syrian National Defense Forces (NDF) in the besieged towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya in the eastern Idlib countryside repelled an attack by radical militants on their positions from the eastern direction, according to the Hezbollah media wing. Local sources said that the NDF had lost one of its fighters while repelling the attack.
No group has claimed responsibility for the failed attack yet. However, Syrian pro-government sources said that the attack had been carried out by fighters of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Ahrar.
In response to the attack, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a series of airstrikes on positions of HTS and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the villages of al-Sawaghiya, Taftanaz and Ram Hamdan east of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Fighters of the FSA carried out a similar attack on the two besieged towns on March 17. Back then, the NDF repelled the attack killing more than 15 FSA fighters.
Recently, many radical figures, including the Saudi cleric Muhammad al-Mohaisany, called for launching attacks on the besieged towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya to avenge the militants’ major defeat in the Eastern Ghouta region.
Due to these threats, Syrian pro-government activists believe that the remaining NDF fighters and civilians in the towns of al-Fu’ah and Kafriya may be evacuated later this year in the framework of the Astana agreement.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry on Friday imposed travel restrictions on American diplomats in the country comes into effect today. A ministry notification issued to the US Embassy in Islamabad yesterday.
The measures include travel restrictions, as well as treating US diplomatic cargo at Pakistani airports and ports in accordance with Vienna Convention’s Article 27 “which does not provide for an exemption from scanning”.
The notification states the withdrawal of seven facilities afforded to US diplomats, including the use of non-diplomatic number plates on official vehicles, use of diplomatic number plates on unspecified or rented vehicles, and overshooting visa periods and/or the use of multiple passports.
The embassy will now also have to seek no objection certificates from the ministry to install radio communication at residences and safe houses, and while renting property or moving from one property to another.
The embassy will also be unable to use tinted windows on official vehicles as well as rented vehicles, or use SIMs that are not biometrically verified or registered.
The US diplomats to stay within 25 miles of the city they are posted at, further straining already tense relations between the two countries who were once close allies in the war against terror.

I’d be surprised if the Syrian government would agree to this. After these valiant fighters and civilians have held this area against steep odds for so long. And it’s part of the occupied border areas to be cleared. It would be like giving up Dier Ezzor. I just don’t see it happening.
