Mihrac Ural, the leader of the Syrian Resistance, has survived an assassination attempt in northern Lattakia, the group announced in an official statement on July 6.
“During a field tour in Lattakia’s countryside to observer the work of the Syrian Resistance … Secretary General of the Syrian Resistance – the Popular Front for the Liberation of the Sanjak of Iskandarun was subjected to an assassination attempt … His car was subjected to the explosion of an explosive device, that had been planted on the road,” the group’s statement reads.
Ural, who is known by his nom de guerre Ali Kayyali, sustained severe injures as a result of the explosion. However, he was transported to a unspecified hospital, where he was treated.

The Syrian Resistance accused the Turkish intelligence and local collaborators of plotting the assassination attempt. Ankara had held Ural responsible for the 2013 Reyhanlı car bombings, which killed more than 50 people.
Last year, Ural survived an assassination attempt in the same region. Prior to that, a counter-intelligence operation by the Syrian authorities uncovered a spy ring of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) that was planning to kill Ural and other commanders of the Syrian Resistance.
Founded in 2011, the Syrian Resistance played a key role in supporting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) military operations in northern Lattakia. The group is also believed to be involved in covert operations inside Turkey.
While there is still no evidence proving that Turkey was behind Ural’s assassination attempt, Ankara remains one of the main suspects.

When an external enemy is immediately blamed, one doesn’t have to deal with the real problems. In the coastal area there are gangs / militias who are fighting each other. The SAA doesn’t deal with them due to lack of manpower.

Seriously; in Syria there are many militias, but there are two clear sides, pro syrian government or against syrian government and on the side pro syrian government there are no extem-religios idiots, who sometimes even kill each other, such “gangs2 are on the other side, who is fighting against the syrian government. Just this doesn’t makeit a gang war also. There are state actors like USA, Israel, Turkey and Russiia, Iran, Syria and so there is state run mitlitary intelligence involved on all sides. Except somebody is seeing the involved states as “gangs”, I have no idea how to see a “gang war” in this (like Free man is doing).

Gang war is what you can see in USA-cities. In Syria it`s a war USA/Israel/EU/Saudi-Arabia against China/Russia/Iran/Syria and then there is Turkey basicly on the side of USA, only this thing with the Kurds … so because of the special role Turkey is playing in this war and the role syrian resistance in Latakia is playing, Turkey is the party who has the most motives to kill this man.
I understand your point of view. But in the coastal area of Syria there is a serious problem of Alawites crime gangs. Given what this man and his militia do on a regular basis (and that is not resistance), it is more likely to me that this is the result of a gang war.
So yeah, I call it “different militias”, you call it “gangs” and you think it was another “gang”, I think it was turkish-backed militias, so we have different opinions on that.

Good observaton, but remeber that Russia has been stopping SAA offensive on Idlib due to Russi wants to please Turkey. On the other want, Syria alone will no be able to do much since we have seen how uneffective and naive are some of its generals (and Syria soldiers) in battle field.

The audio files disclosed contacts between Mahmoud al-Falahi, the commander of al-Anbar operations in the Iraqi army, with a CIA agent who is an Iraqi national. The CIA agent asked al-Falahi to provide him with the geographical coordinates of the existing military bases at the borders between Iraq and Syria “to be attacked by the US and Israeli air forces”. He also told al-Falahi to meet with “the US army and intelligence service commanders in Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan region or at the US forces’ base in al-Habaniyeh” in Western Iraq. During the conversations, al-Falahi provided the detailed coordinates of military bases in al-Anbar to the agent. Hezbollah described the audio files as documents showing al-Falahi’s “plot against the Iraqi army, security, Hashd al-Shaabi and resistance forces “, warning that his spying for the CIA and Israeli Mossad spy agencies has endangered Iran’s national security. Iraqi security sources disclosed in 2016 that Washington was exerting pressure on the Baghdad government to end Hashd al-Shaabi’s partnership in war against ISIL and dissolve the militia army that has the lion share in the war on terrorism in the country. “The US government has conveyed the message to the Iraqi government through its diplomats that there is no need to Hashd al-Shaabi forces and their role should come to an end,” a senior Iraqi source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told FNA at the time. A senior member of the Iraqi parliament revealed last month the US plots and attempts to dissolve Hashd al-Shaabi with pressures on Iraq’s government after the popular forces regained control over Iraq’s borders with Syria. The Arabic-language al-Ma’aloumeh news website quoted Odai Awad as saying that the US was pressuring Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to force him act against Hashd al-Shaabi. He referred to the US embassy’s contacts with the ISIL commanders, and said certain regions in Iraq are showing allegiance to the ISIL again in a way that a number of Iraqi security commanders have compared the situation to the situation in 2014. Awad said that the US pressures started after Hashd al-Shaabi forces retook control over the Iraqi-Syrian borders, adding that at present, some measures are being adopted against Hashd al-Shaabi on the political and international scene in a bid to disturb the public opinion in freed areas.
