In the early hours of March 13, warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out more than 16 airstrikes on positions of radical militants in the southern Idlib countryside.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the airstrikes targeted positions near the towns of Saraqip, Khan al-Subul, Arihah, Kafr Amim, Qmenas, al-Nerab and Tell Mardikh.
The airstrikes coincided with heavy shelling by Syrian Arab Army (SAA) artillery and rocket launchers on militant positions in the northern and northwestern Hama countryside.
A few hours before the Syrian-Russian attack, radical militants launched several rockets at the district of al-Zahara in the northern part of the city of Aleppo. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that a civilian was killed and 3 others were injured in the attack.
Idlib militants have stepped up their attacks on residential areas around the northern governorate since the beginning of this month. This led to the de-facto collapse of the Russian-Turkish agreement.
