On January 24, Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on militants’ positions in the so-called Greater Idlib region in the country’s northwest.

According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Russian warplanes carried out 40 airstrikes, while Syrian warplanes and attack helicopters conducted 54 airstrikes.

The Syrian and Russian airstrikes targeted the following areas:

  • The towns of Hass, Maarrat Dibsah, Abu Jurif, Khan Assubul, Sarjah, Talmenes, Hantoteen, Ehsim, Deir Sunbul, Ma’ar Shoreen, Kafar Roma, al-Ghadfa, Benin as well as the cities of Saraqip and Ma`arat al-Nu`man in the eastern and southeastern Idlib countryside.
  • The towns of Mansoura, Khan Al-Asal, Anadan, Khan Tuman, Ma’arat al-Artiq, Kafr Naha, Umm Ataba, the areas of al-Rashideen and ICARDA as well as Base 46 in the northwestern, western and southwestern Aleppo countryside.

A day earlier, more than 140 Syrian and Russian airstrikes targeted Greater Idlib. One of the airstrikes wiped out a large militants’ headquarters in the outskirt of Aleppo city.

The intense airstrikes on Greater Idlib suggest that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) may soon launch a large-scale ground operation in the region. Such an operation could help deter or even neutralize terrorist groups there.

We have not seen the thermobaric missile launcher vehicles recently. Why not I wonder, as there are tunnel networks everywhere?

Z.P.

No clue Florian ..maybe they have them ready for outskirt of Aleppo city offensive or similar? Whatever it is we will find out soon enough.

FlorianGeyer

I expected them to be used on the many assaults of the mountain fortress on the borders with Latakia during the final months of 2019. They were not used there , despite the many tunnels and bunkers.

Great news for sure, and the only other news better than hearing the SAA has resumed its ground offensive in Idlib, is hearing they’d opened up a second battlefront in southern Idlib as well. Come on China, the Uighurs are running amok in southern Idlib and they’re now well away from the Turkish border, it’s time to offer some more help to Assad, the radars were nice but some Chinese special forces would be much more appreciated, some of their leaders would have quite a bit of info China would love to be privy to, so come and get them before Assad blows them all to kingdom come.

ive decided the SU-25SM is my favourite aircraft!
