Syrian security forces have exhumed the body of ISIS leader Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi who was recently killed in the southern governorate of Daraa, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on December 10.
The London-based monitoring group said that the dead body was exhumed by security forces from the eastern graveyard of Jasim in the western Daraa countryside in cooperation with local fighters from the town. The body was then taken to an unknown destination.
Syrian security forces may be planning to conduct a DNA test on the body in order to confirm the death of Abu al-Hasan. Later, he will likely be buried again in an unmarked grave.
Abu al-Hasan, whose real name is Nour Karim al-Mutni, succeeded Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, who died during a U.S. raid that targeted his hideout in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib on February 3.
The newly-appointed leader was killed in the town of Jasim in the western Daraa countryside in mid-October during a security operation that was carried out by former rebels and government troops with support from Russia. ISIS confirmed the death of Abu al-Hasan in an audio message that was released on November 30, naming Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi as the new “caliph”.
The death of Abu al-Hasan was a major blow to ISIS. Nevertheless, the terrorist group is still operating as before. Its cells around the world have already pledged allegiance to Abu al-Hussein, who may be an Iraqi national just like his three predecessors: Abu Baker al-Baghdadi, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi and Abu al-Hasan.
Why would anyone expect their deaths to make any difference? They, like all terrorist groups only take orders from their sponsors. These leaders are only a face for the fools following them.
