On December 14, Syrian security forces foiled a terrorist attack in the city of Damascus after tracking a VBIED, which had been trying to enter Damascus from the southern direction, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The SANA said that security forces managed to encircle the VBIED and its driver near the al-Lwan bridge south of the city and to evacuate the civilians from the area before destroying the VBIED and killing its driver. According to the source, the explosion resulted in minor material loses only.
Few hours later, the Syrian Intelligence intercepted and captured two VBIEDs on the al-Busiyrah–Abu al-Shammat highway before they were able to enter the city of Homs, according to the Syrian state TV. The VBIEDs were later defused by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
Syrian pro-government activists believe that ISIS was behind the terrorist attacks attempts in Damascus and Homs. The terrorist group managed to carry out a terrorist attack that killed 11 civilians inside Homs on December 5. However, the Syrian Intelligence was able to capture the attack perpetrators only three days after the attack.
The three attack attempts today are yet another prove that ISIS is planning to focus on attacking soft targets in the Syrian government areas after losing most of its territory in Syria and Iraq.
Good job, saved a lot of lives.
