Syrian security forces have dismantled a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) in the district of al-Zahra in Homs’ city center.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the VIBED, which was uncovered in the late hours of May 7, was laden with seven C4 explosive charges, with a total weight of 20kg.

Pro-government activists said that the VBIED came from the southeastern governorate of al-Suwayda, where ISIS cells are known to be highly active. The group is responsible for several terrorist attacks in Homs.

In February of 2016, two car bombs sent by ISIS cells exploded in al-Zahra killing 64 civilians and injuring more than 100 others. A high number of the casualties were women and children.

The terrorist group has been trying to resume its terrorist activities in Homs for a while now. Last month, the Syrian intelligence defused an improvised-explosive device (IED), which had been planted by the terrorist group’s cells in the city’s center.
