On January 3, Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops and local government supporters intercepted a convoy of the US-led coalition in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah.
According to the Syrian state TV, the coalition’s convoy, which consisted of five armored vehicles, was stopped near the town of al-Salihiyah then forced to retreat.
The convoy was escorted by two fully-armed AH-64 Apache attack helicopters. The helicopters made several law-passes over al-Salihiyah in what was likely an attempt to intimidate SAA troops and the locals. However, they didn’t back down.

This was the first such encounter in northeastern Syria this year. Last year, many similar encounters were reported. In December alone, more than a dozen US-led coalition convoys were intercepted by SAA troops and government supporters in the northern and eastern countryside of al-Hasakah.
The SAA and government supporters are apparently attempting to restrict the movement of US-led coalition forces in the countryside of al-Hasakah.
Last year, the US-led coalition expanded its presence in al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor, especially in key oil and gas fields, under the pretext of fighting ISIS.
Oh boy..the Syrian brave warriors missed the perfect opportunity to bring the two Zio terrorist enemy craft in a hail of fire and missiles…just tell the Syrian higher up and RUSSIAN that you were threatened by then passing right over you and you defended yourself… C’mon boys, wise up…the Zio terrorist Americans would not hesitate to shoot it down if it was the other way around
The Syrians should at least be arresting those terrorists and taking their vehicles.
I think you will find they have a no shooting agreement that has been in effect from when the SDF/US swept ISIS from east of Manbij across to Raggqa and then swept down the Euphrates to the oil fields in eastern Deir Zeir while the SAA swept the other side and lost the race to the oil fields. Apart from the odd skirmish at the dam before Raqqa and a couple of other occasions neither side shoots at the other and sticks to their boundaries. The US pulled out of that area year before last when Trump ordered the temporary pullout to allow the Turks to attack the Kurds designed to get the Turks and the SAA to fight each other but as Russia moved in with the SAA that never happened . So each side patrols up to the limits , turn around and go back to base. The Yanks heard the local kids were going to throw buckets of shiite at their vehicles which is why they gave air cover with the choppers. No one wanted to clean the vehicles when they got back to base.
Although it would give a nice feeling to take those US troops down, it would escalate the situation which the US government desperately wants.
This could have been a great RPG moment …

I’m glad that no escalations happen as a result of these types of encounters. I wouldn’t want to be in the SAA’s boots there. Staring down two AH-64 Apache helicopters would be extremely unnerving.
A little more than unnerving. Don’t want to be on the ground facing up to one of those day or night.
