Earlier this week a photo of the alleged ceasefire deal between the US-backed Syrian Democratic forces (SDF) and ISIS appeared online. According to the document, the two sides reached a ceasefire agreement to avoid clashes in eastern Syria, especially in the province of Hasakah. The SDF allegedly agreed to avoid engaging ISIS units, fighting with sides not involved in the agreement – in other words, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
Within the framework of the agreement, the sides would establish a hot line and a military coordination room to maintain the ceasefire and to inform each other about military movement close to the contact line. Civilian and economic traffic would also be open between the SDF-held and ISIS-held areas.
On Tuesday, the SDF media wing released an official statement on the issue and claimed that the circulating document was fake adding that this is a part of the propaganda campaign against the SDF.
Even if this particular document is fake, the SDF is the main side responsible for the fact that people are ready to believe in such reports. The US-led coalition and the SDF have repeatedly insisted that they make no deals with ISIS. Meanwhile, they made deals with ISIS in the cities of Manbij, Tabqah and Raqqah and allegedly made a deal with ISIS-linked tribes in the area of the Omar oil fields.
In the province of Deir Ezzor, the SAA eliminated the entire ISIS-held pocket south of Mayadin and are now deploying units for an advance to clear the ISIS-held area northwest of al-Bukamal.
In northeastern Hama and southern Aleppo, the SAA has liberated the villages of Abisan, Aziziyah, Ramlah and Rasm Khala and repelled an attack on the village of Rashadiya by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formelry Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda). In total, government forces have liberated 17 villages from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham since the start of the advance west of the Ithriyah-Khanasser-Aleppo highway earlier in November.

Look at all the known pockets of resistance the SAA left behind in their failed attempt to Beat NATO/US owned ADD forces from gaining Syria’s most productive oil fields. Pockets where not the SAys proper is clearing but multiple malitias groups, groups that may want a combined Syria but are not exactly in love with Assaad. Syria has about 10-12 seperat e commands and each vies. Begs and wheeleds for both new troops and supplies from Russia not Damascus. The difficulties SA a has against relatively few nut cases who seem to sprout up anywhere, anytime and any place they want, goes to show how weak their military really is. Without Russia air power they could not hold a Safeway store from unarmed shoplifters. And just imagine trying to go up against both Kurds and ISIL who are as well armed, if not better, and aided by US airpower. ANY SKIRMISH NO MATTER HOW MINOR THAT HIZ/LEBANON OR IRAN GETS INTO means Syria goes backwards once again as those foreign troops head for home fronts. There are only tiny battles being won by Syria and by time they get done mopping up what lands they have left Hiz, Iran, Turkey and Russia are already saying ISIS defeated battle won, so where does that leave ASSAAD but to accept some political settlement dictated to him by US allies and Russian allies.

This mini ISIS caliphate will have to be liberated by the SAA in due course. The US will of course be resupplying ISIS in the meantime. Perhaps Iraq will be willing to provide a corridor so that the SAA can avoid avoid the Trip Wire of the SDF.

Ceasefire means ISIS keeps a toutable presence in Syria. ISIS presence, however nominal, means US stays in Syria.
Document very likely, but not certainly, real.
I hope the SAA moves across the Euphrates in Iraq and backdoors this deal by wiping out this last major ISIS pocket. What’s the US going to do, bomb forces fighting ISIS and/or Iraqi troops? Hard to justify either of those things, but they will try to find a way.
Better communication lines than the US offered Russia when they entered the war. This is just so that ISIS can join SDF forces and run to somalia, and SDF forces can fight for ISIS, re supply them, and allow them to fight Russia further down the line
