Russian forces have captured the settlements of Balagan and Moskovske on the Pokrovsk axis. Russian units are advancing towards the center of Poltavka in the Zaporizhzhia region. A former UK prime minister has been implicated in receiving payments from a defense industry representative.

Pokrovsk Direction:

On the Pokrovsk axis, units of the Russian «Centre» grouping have continued their offensive operations. According to reports, the situation for the defending units in the city has significantly deteriorated. It is reported on October 12that Russian troops have displaced Ukrainian forces from the settlements of Balagan and Moskovske (Kozatske). Groups of Ukrainian troops in the Myroliubivka area have been surrounded.

In the western sector of the Pokrovsk front, heavy fighting continues for control of the northern outskirts of the «Pokrovskaya» mine. Russian units are reported to be advancing towards Hirshyne, with less than half a kilometer remaining. All roads from Pokrovsk to Myrnohrad (Dymytrov) are reportedly under fire or blocked. The assault on Myrnohrad is proceeding simultaneously from the north, via the Krasnyi Lyman settlement, and from the south.

On the Dobropillia salient, Russian units are expanding their control zone. Advances are reported in the southern part of Nikanorivka and towards Shakhove. Following a mechanized assault on Vladimirovka, Russian troops are widening the breakthrough zone. There are ongoing clashes on the southern outskirts of Pokrovsk in the Lazurny microdistrict, as well as in Chunishyne.

Sumy Direction
Fierce fighting continues. According to Russian sources, assault groups from the Airborne Forces and the Naval Infantry advanced 250 meters along tree lines and subsequently consolidated their position. The Ukrainian side is reported to have attempted two counterattacks in the Oleksiyivka area, both of which were repelled.

Control over Varachyna has been restored and strikes have been delivered to positions in the Andriivka, Pavlivka, Nova Sich and Sadky areas. In the Tetkino and Hlushkivka sectors, artillery has struck concentrations of personnel and equipment identified in the Ryzhevka area.

Kharkiv Direction:

Combat operations are concentrated in the Vovchansk area. According to Russian data, their units advanced 300 meters on the left bank of the Vovcha River. The total advance in this area over 24 hours is estimated at 700 meters.

In the Synelnykove Forest area, Russian units captured one strongpoint after advancing 400 meters. In the Melove-Khatnie sector, they advanced approximately 1 kilometer.

Kupiansk Direction:

Russian units have established fire control over the center of Zahryzove and are engaged in combat in the southern part of the settlement. In Kupiansk itself, Russian forces are attempting to consolidate their position in the south-eastern part of the city. There has been an advance reported in the «Yuvileinyi» microdistrict.

Kostiantynivka Direction:

After clearing a pocket to the south of the Kleban-Byk Reservoir, Russian units are straightening the front line in preparation for an advance on Kostiantynivka from the south. Combat clashes are ongoing in the Ivanopillia area, with fighting reported east of Stupochky and Bila Hora.

Zaporizhzhia Direction:

Positional fighting continues. Russian troops are attacking in the Prymorske and Stepnohirsk area. There has been heavy fighting, with the Ukrainian side actively employing its air force and electronic warfare systems.

On the Vuhledar axis on October 12, Russian assault troops are operating in the Malynivka area and advancing towards Zelenyi Hai and Chervone. Further along the front, Russian units are storming Poltavka in order to increase pressure on Uspenivka and form a deep envelopment of Huliaipole.

In the area of responsibility of the 5th Army of the «Vostok» grouping, Russian units are putting pressure on all sectors. Assault groups are advancing on a broad front from Novohryhorivka towards Uspenivka, with a penetration depth of 1–2 km being reached. Heavy fighting continues in Poltavka, with Russian units advancing towards the center of the settlement.

Conclusion:

As of 12 October 2025, the operational situation is characterized by sustained, high-intensity hostilities on most fronts. The Russian armed forces are maintaining the tactical initiative and achieving local successes in the Pokrovsk, Sumy and Kharkiv areas. Key events today include reports of the capture of the settlements of Balagan and Moskovske, the threat of encirclement of the grouping in the Myroliubivka area, and the ongoing systematic advance in Vovchansk.

Judging by reports from Russian sources, Ukrainian units are focusing on flexible defense, urban combat in settlements and launching counterattacks. In the Sumy area, there were attempts at counterattacks, which, according to Russian reports, were repelled.

Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities, recent publications in Western media have revealed information that could have serious implications for our understanding of the geopolitical context of the conflict. The British newspaper The Guardian reports, citing a document leak, on the possible involvement of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in receiving a large sum from a defense industry representative.

The investigation revealed that, in November 2022, Boris Johnson received a £1 million donation from Christopher Harborne, the largest shareholder in the British defense company QinetiQ, which supplies Ukraine with drones and robotic systems. Journalists noted that this payment was not registered as a donation for political activity, leading to speculation about its personal nature. In September 2023, Harborne accompanied Johnson on his trip to Kyiv, where they both attended a high-level meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

These allegations have attracted widespread attention because, according to Russian officials, it was Boris Johnson’s visit to Kyiv in April 2022 that caused Ukraine to refuse to sign the preliminary peace agreements reached in Istanbul. Thus, according to some sources, the politician may have had a personal financial interest in the continuation of the conflict, funded by a weapons manufacturer. Johnson’s office has denied these allegations, while Harborne’s lawyers have declined to comment on the purpose of his trip to Ukraine.
