Tahrir Al-Sham Bans “Exporting Revolution” In Region

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani

Written by Damir Nazarov

New revelations from Tahrir al-Sham officials have once again demonstrated the organization’s pro-Zionist leanings. The so-called “Foreign Minister of the transitional government of Syria” Asaad Al-Shaibani, in an interview with Financial Times, said that –

“Some are concerned about the revival of Islamic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, while other Arab countries fear that the success of the rebels will lead to the revival of revolutionary movements. We do not plan to export the revolution.”

These words were made in the context of the recent pressure on Egyptian activists affiliated with the Muslim-Brotherhood (Abdul Rahman al-Qaradawi) and “political Salafists” (Ahmed al-Mansour), who were detained by the Tahrir al-Sham regime, and Mansour signed a document on ending the “incitement” against the Egyptian junta.

But it is not only political and economic reasons that push former jihadists to feud with Egyptian fundamentalists; ideology is also a cornerstone. We have already understood that Tahrir al-Sham sees the future through the prism of building an autocracy, and Saudi Arabia has been chosen as a model for the future of Syria. While the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt and many Salafis there still adhere to the creation of a democratic system. Another important area of disagreement concerns issues of Sunni jurisprudence, which is already being debated in Syria, where Takfiris talk about the persecution of the Ash’arites. The fact of the murder of a Sunni cleric by the hands of Takfiri is already known. The perpetrators were not brought to justice.

In the end, Al-Julani regularly emphasizes that he will build a “civil republic”, thus there can be no talk of any “revolutionary state”, which means the end of all the dreams and plans of those Sunnis who believed and hoped for an alliance with the former Syrian al-Qaeda in the elimination of autocracies and juntas in the region. The incredible desire of the Tahrir al-Sham regime to quickly integrate into the Arab environment is further evidence of the lack of any desire of yesterday’s jihadists to “help the oppressed brothers from Ahl al-Sunna”. By the way, even among the Salafist environment, al-Julani does not evoke sympathy. He is ignored by former “teachers of jihad” and his former comrades in arms are dissatisfied with him. Even within his organization, discontent has grown after it became clear that al-Julani still does not know what role “Sharia law” will play in the “new Syria.”

In any case, such “anti-Sunni” actions by the new regime in Syria undermine their sympathies in the Sunni world and remind us of old problems: 1 – the long-standing rivalry between jihadists and Ikhwans, 2 – the conformist character trait in favor of the “world of ignorance” inherent in most Sunni and Salafi organizations that have just taken over the country, which a priori means undermining any Sunni-revolutionary project. If the first point is nothing new, since the parties have been feuding with each other since the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, then the second problem indicates the absence of an adequate revolutionary ideology within the Sunni political worldview, which has an extremely negative impact on the general state of the Islamic world and in particular on the Palestinian issue.

The former Al-Qaeda of Syria is persistently trying to prove its loyalty to the collective West, Zionism and the Gulf autocracies, therefore a wide range of actions are being used, from Iranophobia to the liquidation of any embryo of a revolutionary project of Sunnis or Salafis.
