A Taliban delegation led by by Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanekzai will attend in talks on the settlement of the Afghan conflict in the Russian capital of Moscow, which are set to be started on February 5 last for two days. The Moscow-based Council of Afghan Society, an organization of the Afghan diaspora in Russia, is the organizer of the meeting.
Th negotiations will together prominent Afghan figures, including former President Hamid Karzai and potential presidential candidate Hanif, opposition figures, and tribal elders. However, government officials will not be involved.
The US-backed Afghan government criticized the meeting in Moscow, saying that Afghan politicians attending the talks were doing so “in order to gain power.”
