Taliban Leader Claims That Group Controls Over Half Of Afghanistan

The article is provided by Islamic World News exclusively for SouthFront

Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada in a message on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha announced that the departure of all American and NATO forces from Afghanistan is the only solution to end the war and violence in Afghanistan.

He also denied any Taliban links with terrorist attacks and declared that the Taliban controls more than half of the country. However, this claim contradicts to the info provided by the US military.

Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, said that government forces control 62% of the country and the Taliban controls only 10%. The rest of the area is contested, according to the general.

The Pentagon has also confirmed that there are about 11,000 US troops in Afghanistan, including regular troops and  special forces. The US is going to send about 4,000 more troops to Afghanistan under the newly declared strategy in the country.

“However, this claim contradicts to the info provided by the US military.”

Gee, I wonder how accurate these claims are…

FlorianGeyer

Yes, using the same US ‘ Logic ‘ , the 62% that the US says is under government control is contested as well :)

I don’t think the Taliban own half of the country but this war is a stalemate nobody will win, it boils down to the only way forward is a political process.

I think the Taliban are Afghanistani people and the Americans are invaders. The Americans are also notorious liars and notoriously inefficient. The US will stay there until they can’t afford to stay their any longer. That’s how Afghanistan destroys empires – it wears them down.

According to newspaper reports months ago the US military admitted that the Taliban control over 40% of the country, this is not likely to go down with the US needing troops in the region. The govt backed by the US has less than control than the present to the public and world. Political processes never worked there ever since the US had deposed the democratically elected govt there which Russia tried to protect and blame US interference since the carter administration for the problems , what is that about 40 years or more of political interference by the US now.

Why does SF really have to believe ‘the info provided by the US military’?

Terra Cotta Woolpuller

They post it possibly to show the US is contradictory and outright publish disinformation constantly, even in regards to their own country. Just my opinion you can take it or leave it for what it is.

“He also denied any Taliban links with terrorist attacks and declared that the Taliban controls more than half of the country. However, this claim contradicts to the info provided by the US military.” ———— Yeah? …. And which of the two groups do we KNOW lies consistently?

TheLulzWarrior
