On September 23, officials of Taliban security forces announced that three members of ISIS-Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) were eliminated in an operation near the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad where the terrorist group has been active.
The operation took place near Jalalabad’s administrative border with the district of Bihsud. The dead bodies of the three supposed ISIS-K members were found in the area.
Photos of the dead bodies cast doubt on the Taliban’s claims. The three men were tied up and blindfolded. They appear to have been executed.

Furthermore, Afghan sources identified the three men in the photos as local merchants from Jalalabad. The men had no known links to ISIS-K
Just a day earlier, ISIS-K announced that its cells in Jalalabad city had carried out three separate attacks against the Taliban.
In district five of the city, ISIS-K members shot and killed two fighters of the Taliban. ISIS-K members also targeted a vehicle of the group with an improvised explosive device (IED), killing two of its fighters and wounding four others.

In Jalalabad’s district two, ISIS-K members killed two fighters of the Taliban and wounded four others in a double tap attack with IEDs.
Afghan news sources confirmed that a number of attacks targeted Taliban fighters in Jalalabad city on September 22. According to the sources, two fighters of the group and three civilians were killed as a result of the attacks.
ISIS-K is the main challenge facing the Taliban’s new government in Afghanistan. The Taliban has already voiced its readiness to fight the terrorist group. Nevertheless, its ability to do so remains questionable to say the least.
Good riddance 👍🏽
