Ten Killed Or Wounded In Rocket Attack On Turkish-Occupied Town In Northern Syria (Videos)

On February 15, a rocket attack targeted the Turkish-occupied town of Azaz in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.

Several rockets landed in the center of Azaz. A park, a local market, a pharmacy and a medical clink were reportedly hit.

The attack claimed the lives of three people and wounded at least seven others. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least one of the wounded is a member of the Free Police, a law enforcement body backed by Turkey.

The rockets were allegedly launched from a small pocket of land in the northern countryside of Aleppo held by Kurdish forces, namely the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is present in the pocket along with a few units of the Russian Military Police.

In response to the deadly attack, the Turkish military and its proxies pounded several SDF-held towns and villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo. As a result of the shelling, eight people, including two children and two service members of the SAA, were wounded.

The rocket attack was not the first of its kind. Around two weeks earlier, a very similar attack targeted the Turkish-occupied town of al-Bab that is located to the east of Azaz. Back then, nine people were killed and more than 31 others were wounded.

Turkish forces and the SDF have been exchanging attacks in northern and northeastern Syria for the last few weeks. A full-on military confrontation between the two sides may break out soon.
