On September 30, a unit of the Nigerian Armed Forces was ambushed by ISIS terrorists in the northeastern state of Borno.

The ambush took place near the town of Marte. ISIS’ news agency, Amaq, said the group’s terrorists targeted the unit’s vehicles with improvised explosive devices then engaged in heavy clashes with Nigerian soldiers.

Amaq claimed that 15 soldiers were killed were killed in the ambush. The agency also claimed that four vehicles were destroyed and another was captured along with large quantities of weapons.

ISIS’ claims were denied by Nigerian sources, who reported the death of ten soldiers only and the injury of at least eight others.

Last week, 30 soldiers, policemen, local fighters and civilians were killed when ISIS terrorists ambushed the convoy of Babagana Umara Zulumr, regional governor of Borno. The ambush took place near the town of Baga, on the shores of Lake Chad.

Nigerian government forces stepped up their operations against ISIS cells in Borno in the last few weeks. However, the terrorist group is still carrying out large attacks the state, especially in the areas neighboring Lake Chad.
