A woman and her son were wounded when an improvised-explosive device (IED) blew up their car, as they passed on a key highway in the western part of the Syrian capital Damascus on June 27.

“A terrorist expulsion, caused by an IED, targeted a car on al-Mazzeh highway in Damascus today’s morning wounding a woman and her son, they were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” a source in Damascus’ Police Department told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Few hours after the attack, Talib Ibrahim, a Syrian political analyst who is known for his pro-government views, revealed that the attack targeted his wife and son. Mr. Ibrahim told the Syrian TV that his son recovered immediately. However, his wife is suffering from more serious injures.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, yet. However, some pro-government activists accused the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood party and Jihadi groups.

Damascus witnessed several bombings over the last few months, despite the strict security measures imposed  there. This new attack will likely encourage the Syrian intelligence and security forces to take more steps to secure the capital.
