A man, suspected of planning a terrorist attack, was arrested by police in Rotterdam, Netherlands, local media reported. Reportedly, a flag of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group and a Kalashnikov assault rifle were also found in the man’s house during a raid of the law enforcement.

According to reports of Dutch media, the police arrested the 30-year-old suspect on Wednesday, during the raid of an anti-terrorist unit on his apartment, where a Kalashnikov assault rifle with two full magazines and an IS flag were also founded.

“He is suspected of preparing a terrorist crime,” the Reuters news agency quoted the words of a prosecutor, who also added that the man was “enough” dangerous to be arrested by the authorities.

Four boxes with highly explosive firecrackers, a cellphone of the suspect, as well as about €1,600 were also seized by the Special Forces in the home of the man.

As the Dutch Telegraaf news website reported, the suspected man will be in custody during two weeks.

According to spokesman for the national prosecution, Wim de Bruin, an investigation into the case is “in full progress.”

“At this moment we have only one suspect,” Bruin said, adding that he does not rule out further arrests.

As the Limburger newspaper reported, initially, the Holland’s Algemene Inlichtingen-en Veiligheidsdienst (AIVD) intelligence agency sent a tip-off to the police.

On Thursday, Austrian Foreign Minister warned of a rising threat of terrorism in Europe, speaking at the meeting of the Ministers of the Organization for the Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

At the same time, the chief of the British MI6 Intelligence service said that jihadists “are plotting ways to project violence against the UK” and its allies. The statement was made during his speech for reporters in London.

Earlier, in October, Hans-Georg Maassen, head of the German Federal Office for Protection of the Constitution (BfV), said that Europe may face “a backlash from the international coalition’s successes against jihadists in Syria and Iraq.” According to him, the IS terrorist group “may alert its supporters in Europe, that it can lead to violent attacks.”
