A checkpoint of Syria’s Political Security Directorate (PSD) in Damascus’ Eastern Ghouta was targeted on November 10 with what’s believed to be an improvised explosive device (IED).
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a personal of the PSD was killed and at least four others were injured in the unusual attack, which took place in the town of Kafr Batna.
Following the attack, Syrian security forces placed its positions in the Eastern Ghouta region on high-alert and blocked all the roads leading to the targeted checkpoint. A curfew was also imposed in the region.
“All civilians remained in their homes amid panic and fear. It was the first attack on regime forces in a populated area since regime forces took control of Eastern Ghouta,” the SOHR’s report reads.
Until its liberation in 2018, Kafr Batna was a stronghold of several terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda’-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Islam. It’s still unclear if any of these groups were behind the terrorist attack on the PSD’s checkpoint.
Earlier this week, a soldier and a civilian were injured in a similar attack that targeted a bus transporting them in northwest Damascus.

This attack shows that the troubles are not over until they are over. The SAA and security forces need to mop up all those terrorists who have gone to ground in and around Damascus.
The alternative is western security forces who do love putting their car bombs in urban areas.
