On August 23, several militants attacked a checkpoint of Libyan security forces on the western entrance of the northwestern town of Zliten, which is under the control of the Libyan Government of National Accord (LGNA), according to the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV.

Mohamad Bu Hajar, a security commander in Zliten, told al-Arabiya that seven personnel of Libyan security forces were killed and ten others were injured as a result of the attack. The commander also revealed that security forces killed one of the attackers during the clashes.

Following the incident, Libyan security forces closed the coastal highway and launched a security operation around Zliten to neutralize the militants who managed to escape.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, local activists identified one of the attackers as an ISIS supporter named “Ali Ibrahim al-Dib,” who is a resident of Zliten.

According to al-Arabiya, many ISIS cells are currently hiding in a mountain chain between the areas of Bani Walid and Tarhuna. However, the LGNA, which is dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood party, is not taking any measures to eliminates these terrorists.
