The Bad War: Ethnic Cleansing Threat Rises From Ashes Of Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

Azerbaijan and Armenian continue to exchange claims of each other losses in the ongoing battle in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

On October 2, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan claimed that Armenian forces have suffered from serious losses since the outbreak of the battle in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 27. The ministry summarized the Armenian side losses as follows:

• 230 battle tanks and armored vehicles;
• 250 artillery and rocket systems;
• 38 air-defense systems;
• 10 command and control centers;
• 7 ammunition depots;
• 130 military vehicles;
• 1 S-300 long-range air-defense system.

Furthermore, Azerbaijan claimed that Armenian shelling had claimed the lives of 19 civilians and injured 61 others. 43 civilian facilities were allegedly destroyed, along with 178 houses.

From its side, the Armenian Unified Infocenter alleged that upwards of 3,000 Azerbaijan service members have been killed while fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, so far.

The battle in Nagorno-Karabakh appear to be far from being over. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia are, without a doubt, exaggerating the real losses of each other to raise the morale of their citizens. On the other hand, photo and video evidence from the ground demonstrate multiple casualties among forces of the both sides of the conflict.

The ongoing cruel war is also marked by no reports about the captured ‘enemy soldiers’ by Armenia or Azerbaijan, even official propganda of the sides do not release such numbers.

This indicates the exacerbation of the sides that seek to eliminate each other and do not take captives. This also destroys the official narrative of Azerbaijan, which claims that there is no threat to civilian population in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and the region will get an autonomy if it is returned under the control of Baku. In fact, this scenario will mean the genocide of Armenians on this territory. These factors as well as an indiscriminate bombings of civilian targets and cities by Azerbaijan explain why Baku dramatically limited the coverage from the battleground and de-facto imposed the informational blockade.

The genocide of Armenian population together with the deployment of members of Turkish-backed radical militant groups are among the factors that may force a third party, like Russia, to intervene in the conflict on the side of Armenia.
